My Financial Freedom Story
I know what it feels like to be overwhelmed by debt and unsure whether financial peace is even possible. My story is proof that with the right plan, steady discipline, and support, lasting change can happen.
How It Started
-
After being laid off from my technology job in 2001, I spent several years earning a low income.
-
I was buried in credit card debt, student loans, a home equity loan, and a car loan.
-
I also went through a foreclosure and seriously considered bankruptcy.
-
As a single woman responsible for all my own expenses, I wondered if I would ever recover or be able to retire.
The Turning Point
In 2008, I found a well-paying technology job again. Around that time, I was introduced to Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace course, which gave me a practical framework for changing my financial life.
What I Changed
-
I stopped using credit cards.
-
I got a roommate to reduce expenses.
-
I cut back on spending.
-
I used the debt snowball method to pay off balances one by one.
-
I stayed committed to living within my means.
The Result
-
By 2016, I was debt-free.
-
I was able to buy a home again, even after a foreclosure.
-
I saved aggressively for retirement and maxed out my 401(k).
-
I retired at 63 with the financial stability I had once thought was impossible.
